JOB DESCRIPTION:
West Coast Code Consultants, Inc. (WC³) is currently seeking a qualified Code Enforcement Officer with a minimum of one year experience in performing investigations of complaints, conducting inspections, issuing citations, and working with property owners and residents to resolve code violations. Candidates will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal codes and regulations related to the building environment, including zoning, land use, building codes, nuisance housing, health and safety, blight, graffiti, water waste, and other matters of public concern. The candidate serves as a resource and provides information on local regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, the general public, and other jurisdictional departments and divisions.
This position will report to, and receive support from, WC³ management based in our South San Francisco Regional Office while operating in-house with a jurisdictional client for six (6) months to a year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform all necessary duties of a Code Enforcement Officer to enforce code programs adopted by jurisdictions.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings and properties to identify potential code violations.
- Year-round field inspection and investigation of citizen complaints and allegations of code violations.
- Communicate effectively with the public (homeowners, property owners, engineers, architects, etc.) to answer questions that may arise and communicate deficiencies. with owners and builders.
- Notify property owners and residents of violations and work with them to develop a plan for compliance.
- Issue citations and fines for violations of code regulations.
- Review building plans and permit applications to ensure compliance with zoning and building codes.
- Provide assistance and guidance to property owners and residents regarding code compliance.
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records of inspections and enforcement actions.
- Work closely with other departments and agencies to coordinate code enforcement efforts.
- Operate computers to research, enter, process, and acquire data relative to complaints, inspection sites, and effective code enforcement.
- Position may require physical exertion during on-site inspections such as walking, sitting, standing, and the ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds. Most work will be performed outdoors in the elements. Must be able to lift, climb, jump, and crawl.
- Make special efforts to promote goodwill in the office and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Basic knowledge of electronics and Microsoft Office Suite.
- The job requires the ability to drive.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college coursework in a related field is preferred.
- Current CACEO certifications with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in code enforcement, building inspection, or a related field.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal building, zoning, and health and safety codes and regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with property owners, residents, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities, and to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
SALARY:
- $38 – $55 / Hourly, Depending on Experience
